Cynder-divejump

Cynder performing a Dive Jump in the Ruins of Warfang.

Dive Jumping is a glitch in the console versions of The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. It allows Spyro or Cynder to reach high places or jump over walls that would normally prevent them from progressing.

Variations[]

There are two ways to perform this glitch: from flight or from a jump.

From Flight[]

This version of the Dive Jump is only performable by Cynder. It is the easiest, but most unreliable, form of the glitch. While flying, simply hold down the Strong Attack button. Cynder will dive towards the ground, and there is a chance that she will bounce into the air when she lands. It is unknown exactly what kind of terrain best suits the glitch, but generally flat surfaces are more likely to make her bounce. Dive Jumping from flight grants less height than from a jump and is slower to set up, but it is more convenient as you are able to hold a direction without interfering with the jump.

From a Jump[]

This version of the Dive Jump can be performed by either dragon, though Cynder's is slightly faster due to her shorter dive animation. After jumping, hold down the Strong Attack button to dive towards the ground. Then, shortly after the impact, tap the Block button. If done correctly, Spyro or Cynder should bounce into the air with the momentum of the dive. You can then jump or double jump afterwards to greatly increase the height of the jump. This version of the glitch has the benefit of not relying on terrain or luck to perform. However, it does take practice to master and can be tricky to perform from different heights. In addition, the camera may lag behind when the move is performed by Spyro.

Applications[]

Aside from the obvious benefits of having a higher jump, the Dive Jump can be used to skip multiple sections of the game. Below are some of its uses.

The Catacombs[]

  • Can be used to grab onto the vines from the other side of the rotating block in the Waterfall Cave.

Twilight Falls[]

  • Can be used to skip the vine swinging section in the last area.

Valley of Avalar[]

  • Can be used on the bank of the river to reach the hermit's area.

Ruins of Warfang[]

  • Can be used to jump over the walls protecting three of the four red crystals.
  • Can be used to skip both breakable walls on the upper levels.

Burned Lands[]

  • Can be used to hop many of the barriers that appear during battles.
