In The Legend of Spyro series, the dragon eggs made a brief appearance at the beginning of The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning. However, the Dark Master sent his dark forces to destroy all of the eggs to prevent the next purple dragon, Spyro, from being born. Ignitus takes Spyro's egg and safely sends it down a stream, hoping for the best. By the time Ignitus returned to the Temple, the other Guardians were overpowered and all of the other dragon eggs were smashed by the Apes.
Cynder's egg was taken by Gaul to be corrupted by the Dark Master, who needed a dragon born from the Year of the Dragon to open a gateway to his prison.
It was revealed that the dragons' very survival depended on the eggs that were crushed by the Apes.
