Purple Dragons are a special breed of dragon; a status that was only introduced in Spyro: Shadow Legacy. Like Spyro, they are a unique dragon species who are gifted with powerful magical energy. Multiple characters, such as Zoe and the wizards at the Mountains of Magic, regard Purple Dragons as special and the greatest of all creatures.
Known Purple Dragons
There were a total of two known Purple Dragons who were included with this special status: Spyro and the Sorcerer.
Abilities
Purple Dragons have powerful magical energy that makes them withstand the negative and dark effects of magic. They can also learn and harness magic rather quickly, making them powerful creatures.

Trivia
- In the the original Spyro games before Shadow Legacy, Purple Dragons weren't a major plot device. Several minor dragons from the first game were purple, namely Alban, Ragnar, Asher, Sadiki, and Azizi. Another dragon in the original Spyro: Year of the Dragon was also purple.
- In the Spyro Reignited Trilogy portion of Spyro the Dragon, only Alban, Asher, Zander, Azizi, Claude, Kosoko are purple-scaled dragons; Zander and Kosoko being redesigned as such.
- The statements surrounding purple dragons in Shadow Legacy is possibly what gave the producers of the Legend of Spyro trilogy the idea of implementing the legendary status of the Purple Dragon in the Legend reboot, as they were the ones who also worked on Shadow Legacy.
